fd2s to Develop New Wayfinding Program for University of Michigan Medical Center
The University of Michigan Health System has selected fd2s to develop a comprehensive new pathways and landmarks wayfinding system for its main Ann Arbor medical campus, which includes approximately 3.7 million square feet of space, spread over seven attached buildings and three large parking decks.
The project will begin with an examination and evaluation of the wayfinding challenges on the campus and a review of its existing wayfinding and identification signage. fd2s will then create a new wayfinding logic that incorporates our unique pathways and landmarks approach, and produce design concepts for signage and non-signage elements required to deploy this approach, including the reuse of existing signage components as appropriate.
The overall wayfinding strategy and the recommended design concepts, along with a phasing plan and preliminary implementation budget, will be documented in a wayfinding master plan. This plan will guide both the initial rollout of the system and future changes that might be necessitated by expansions or modifications to campus facilities.
