Wayfinding Consulting

To create this marquee donor wall in The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia’s main lobby, fd2s served as the lead consultant on a multi-disciplinary design team that included an architect, lighting designer, interactive designer, cost consultant, and custom signage fabricator.

fd2s began the project by working with CHOP to identify a suitable location for the consolidated donor display.  The team found a long, unbroken wall surface along a busy corridor connecting the main reception lobby, a multi-level atrium, and the emergency department waiting area. It was the ideal high-visibility spot for this important installation.

With the location selected, we directed the team in the design of a hybrid digital and static display that acknowledges both annual and lifetime giving to the organization. Members of the Chairman’s Circle – who have made gifts totaling at least one million dollars – are identified with etched acrylic “ingots.” The ingots are illuminated with concealed LED fixtures and sit on horizontal rails that form a large, circular composition that subtly suggests the campaign’s Chairman’s Circle name. This modular, expandable approach is an elegant and practical solution that encourages continued giving.

Annual gifts are recognized in an interactive niche that includes three monitors that allow visitors to search and access donor names and stories, patient testimonials, and other content about the organization.

The glass components of the 55-foot-long donor wall are illuminated with programmable LEDs that allow for seasonal and event-specific color effects.
