Second Street District

Helping to define and promote an emerging urban district in Downtown Austin.

fd2s served as the graphics and wayfinding consultant on the team (led by Copley Wolff Design Group of Boston) responsible for planning and designing streetscape enhancements for the burgeoning Second Street District in Downtown Austin. The goal of the project was to enhance the district’s viability as a retail hub by creating a pedestrian-friendly environment, and also link two important civic destinations – the new City Hall and the Convention Center complex.

A key component of the system developed by fd2s was a unique light pole that reduces clutter in the streetscape by consolidating roadway and pedestrian lighting with traffic signals, identification/wayfinding signage, and special-event banners.
