The University of Kansas Hospital Bell Lobby Renovation

Kansas City, Kansas Lobby Renovation Allows for Organizational Narrative

The University of Kansas Hospital Bell Lobby Renovation

A long overdue makeover for the main lobby of the Hospital features sinewy lines and beautiful variations in a largely neutral interiors palette. fd2s worked with Hospital leadership and the architect, Cannon Design, to develop and implement a major donor wall that anchors the lobby space. A two-level circulation space adjacent to the lobby is framed with an elegant glazed band that displays a quote attributed to one of the Hospital’s early luminary figures.

Wayfinding elements in the lobby and adjacent areas comprises clear bands and metal brackets finished to match the interior architecture. Department identification is via frosted vinyl (which simulates etched glass) applied to the inside surface of sidelights at each suite entrance. fd2s worked at length with the Hospital staff to clarify, distill, and prioritize destination names on all signage.
